ZAMPERINI WINS at SANDOWN

Zamperini showed the winning spirit of his namesake with a game (and heart stopping to followers) win at Sandown yesterday. The race was partly won at the start with the benefit of a good break from the stalls (which he did not have on his previous run at the track) and an ideal sit in 5th place just behind what was likely to be a steady pace. The race panned out as we had thought and having a good position Jim Crowley, his jockey, was able to pull Zamperini out from the inside rail and get a run up the outside unlike the favourite who got caught in behind the leaders. Zamperini battled all the way to the line and manged to get his head in front by the narrowest of margins, a nose!
We were all thrilled with the result and the photograph below shows winning connections with, from left to right, Bill and Maureen Tillett, Bailey, Rob Tillett, Michael Keady (Assistant Trainer), Machaela (regular rider of Zamperini) and jockey, Jim Crowley.
